about

Classical Ambient synthesizer music represents a relatively contemporary artistic tradition, one characterized by various creative movements. In the realm of this tradition, Darren Sangita's “Tangerine” album by his Noodreem project emerges as a compelling exploration of extended ambient synthesizer experiences.

At its heart, this collection of compositions seeks to establish an auditory sanctuary wherein the listener embarks on a profound voyage into the gradual evolution of each waveform. This evolution unfolds ever so slowly over expansive periods, inviting one to partake in the mesmerizing transformation of soundscapes and the fluid sequence of harmonics within a minimalistic melodic structure. The choice of synthesizers employed is pivotal, as they possess the capability to delicately scan through complex waveforms or wavetables, enabling the emergence and dissipation of both subtle and intricate harmonics.

The overarching compositional theme of this entire album reverberates with the echoes of the classical Fugue. Rooted in contrapuntal technique, where two or more elements weave intricate patterns around a central theme, Sangita harnesses this concept to craft a minimalist tonal canvas. Here, the focus pivots toward allowing timbral modulations to rise to the forefront. Most elements commence with the same melody, albeit played at varying ratios - some at half speed, others at double the octave, and even commencing two beats after the last synthesizer line, among other permutations.

However, this is no ordinary fugue; it carries a psychedelic twist. Sangita introduces a MIDI sequencer inspired by the innovative spirit of Steve Reich. Through this, he masterfully utilizes Euclidean clock operations, weaving an organic, ever-evolving narrative that spans protracted durations, almost akin to an unfolding musical algorithm with fractal intricacies.

Within the artistic context of its time, this music stands as a deliberate experiment, challenging the confines of conventional procedures. It serves as an awakening to the unconventional as an artful practice that explores the broader facets of existence. By inviting the auditory space to deepen, expand, and unfurl at a gracefully measured pace and over extended periods, it beckons the possibility of a more profound and expansive state of being or consciousness, awaiting discovery.
